Intro to GOHUNT Insider

Blue jeans, a flannel, paper maps and a .30-06, were a few of the staple items that a hunter would have back in the day. Heck, there are still people out there putting big critters down with limited and out of date gear. But for the most of us, we’re going to want to keep up with the modern times and technology and invest in something that will help us be more successful in whatever it is that we are passionate about. My passion is hunting, and if I had to pick one single resource that will make me more successful as a hunter, it would be GOHUNT Insider. Let’s dive into the different tools that they offer and reasons why. Everything that I am about to discuss is included with the Insider membership.
When I first started big game hunting, I had no idea how to read a map and did not understand the importance of them. From knowing the boundaries of private and public land, to studying topography and terrain, maps are one of those things that hunters cannot go without. Luckily, GOHUNT has recently gotten into the digital mapping game, and they are hands down my favorite. Their features, ease of use and attention to detail is what separates them from competitors. The terrain analysis tool, which allows you to analyze terrain by highlighting certain areas where different game animals are most likely to be at any time of the year, is awesome. Having a built-in rangefinder on your phone with their mobile app has helped us countless times while in the field. Another benefit is the ability to download huge maps, sometimes the size of full units, and bring them with you into the field and use them with having no cell phone service. I have a desk job and spend quite a bit of time scouting from my computer. The 3D, which is also available on your phone, is incredible. It is basically google earth for hunters.
Besides having GOHUNT maps always pulled up on my web browser, I will usually have two more windows open on my desktop and those are their filtering 2.0 and draw odds. If you buy points, apply for tags either in your home state or out of state, these two tools are a must. With filtering 2.0 you can select a state, game species, trophy potential, odds of drawing, seasons/dates, public/private land percentage and harvest success rates. This enables you to really fine tune your search on your best chances of filling that tag you’ve been dreaming about. Once you have figured out some areas that you’d like to hunt, using their draw odds tool in conjunction with filtering 2.0, is a match made in heaven. For example, I have built up four points for Wyoming elk and I have narrowed it down to a couple areas within different units that I would like to hunt. My number one spot that I have scouted on maps is eighty seven percent public land, has a thirty four percent hunter success rate, and the general quality size of a bull is between 280-310 with a trophy potential of 320 plus. It is also a one hundred percent draw for me with four points. I am looking to harvest my first bull elk and all of these tools have made finding areas out of state pretty darn easy.
If you have done any sort of research on mule deer hunting, there is a good possibility that you have seen or heard the name Brady Miller. He is just one of the many experts that work for GOHUNT who happens to write quite a few strategy articles on either mule deer hunting, maps or the application processes for acquiring tags throughout the west. The strategy articles on their website have hands down helped me become a more successful hunter. Anything hunting related, you can bet they have written an article about it. I have been building points in my home state of Washington for about eight years and have started building points in multiple other states over the last four years or so. Remembering how many points you have for each species, in each state, can get a little overwhelming. They have developed the point tracker tool, where you can organize all of your points in one convenient location. It works with filtering 2.0 and draw odds so you can quickly filter and find your hunt. Not only can you do this for yourself, but you can also do this for your family as well and make profiles for them. Understanding each species in different states can also be overwhelming. There is a section on insider that is dedicated to help you understand the species in each state, with annually updated profiles. All of the different regulations for each state can also be quite confusing at times. The state regulations tool allows you to choose any state and it’ll give you all of the details on rules and regulations, draw system, fees and important dates.
So, as you can see, having a GOHUNT Insider membership is a crucial component to finding success in the field. Did I mention they also have a gear shop that carries hunting gear? They select gear for their shop that has been put to the test and most of it they use themselves. Each time you purchase something, you earn reward points (a point is a dollar) that you can spend in the gear shop. You will also be automatically entered into monthly giveaways just by being an Insider member. Right now, when you sign up for GOHUNT Insider, use code PNW and get fifty points ($50) to spend in their gear shop, just by signing up. Or if you’d rather just have their maps, sign up for the Explorer membership and get twenty points towards the gear shop, and still use code PNW. It is no wonder why they call themselves “the hunting company,” it’s truly a one stop shop for everything hunting.
