Besides having GOHUNT maps always pulled up on my web browser, I will usually have two more windows open on my desktop and those are their filtering 2.0 and draw odds. If you buy points, apply for tags either in your home state or out of state, these two tools are a must. With filtering 2.0 you can select a state, game species, trophy potential, odds of drawing, seasons/dates, public/private land percentage and harvest success rates. This enables you to really fine tune your search on your best chances of filling that tag you’ve been dreaming about. Once you have figured out some areas that you’d like to hunt, using their draw odds tool in conjunction with filtering 2.0, is a match made in heaven. For example, I have built up four points for Wyoming elk and I have narrowed it down to a couple areas within different units that I would like to hunt. My number one spot that I have scouted on maps is eighty seven percent public land, has a thirty four percent hunter success rate, and the general quality size of a bull is between 280-310 with a trophy potential of 320 plus. It is also a one hundred percent draw for me with four points. I am looking to harvest my first bull elk and all of these tools have made finding areas out of state pretty darn easy.
If you have done any sort of research on mule deer hunting, there is a good possibility that you have seen or heard the name Brady Miller. He is just one of the many experts that work for GOHUNT who happens to write quite a few strategy articles on either mule deer hunting, maps or the application processes for acquiring tags throughout the west. The strategy articles on their website have hands down helped me become a more successful hunter. Anything hunting related, you can bet they have written an article about it. I have been building points in my home state of Washington for about eight years and have started building points in multiple other states over the last four years or so. Remembering how many points you have for each species, in each state, can get a little overwhelming. They have developed the point tracker tool, where you can organize all of your points in one convenient location. It works with filtering 2.0 and draw odds so you can quickly filter and find your hunt. Not only can you do this for yourself, but you can also do this for your family as well and make profiles for them. Understanding each species in different states can also be overwhelming. There is a section on insider that is dedicated to help you understand the species in each state, with annually updated profiles. All of the different regulations for each state can also be quite confusing at times. The state regulations tool allows you to choose any state and it’ll give you all of the details on rules and regulations, draw system, fees and important dates.
